![]() When asked for one word to describe her experience with LiquidGym, Sylva said “amazing”. With LiquidGym, Sylva feels that she’ll achieve her goal. Sylva was seeing tremendous improvements – her gait was even and she wasn’t swinging her leg anymore. The addition of the AlterG to her training has resulted in huge improvements. On the AlterG, she’s now working with 80% bodyweight. She wanted to add more weight to her body during her workout – in the water, she’s chest-deep, so she’s only working with 30% body weight. Last month, she added 2 weekly sessions on the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill: 3 days a week in the pools, and 2 days a week on the AlterG. ![]() Her balance improved tremendously from working out in the water. Every lunch hour, she’d be there – walking, then running, forwards, sideways, backwards – strengthening her muscles and retraining her brain to work with her body. She joined LiquidGym and began walking on an underwater treadmill 5 days a week. Sylva was still limping, her right leg was still weak and she was swinging it to walk. Her progress was slow and frustrating all she wanted to do was don her runners and hit the road.įast forward to late 2015, when she discovered LiquidGym. An avid runner and yoga instructor, Sylva first had to relearn simple tasks like writing and walking. ![]() That’s what happened to LiquidGym member Sylva when, in 2013, she suffered a stroke that completely paralyzed the right side of her body. It’s that amazing feeling of “psychological well-being” you get during or after a run.1When a runner gets injured and can no longer run, they miss it. What’s a runner’s high? If you’re a runner, you know. A run on the AlterG keeps you running injury-free. If you want to train 7 days a week on hard surfaces, you risk injuring yourself. Translate your training on the AlterG to outside, and you’ll be able to hit your speed more consistently on race day. Your legs can train at a faster pace while running at 80%-90% body weight and get used to moving that fast. And it’s much gentler on the joints when you unburden them from full body weight.Īnother benefit to AlterG training is on the conditioning side – you can increase your pace while reducing your body weight. ![]() As an alternative to a trail run, Patrick was running on the AlterG with only 70% of his body weight. That’s crucial as Nationals are only a few short months away. Why or what is a soft surface, you ask? Anything like a dirt trail, gravel or grass something not as hard as sidewalks or roads to minimize risk of injury while maintaining milage. That day, Patrick’s coach had advised him to get in a 40-minute run on a soft surface. Did I mention that LiquidGym has the only AlterG in Ottawa? That’s part of The LiquidGym Advantage. This is Patrick running on the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill. Patrick uses the LG facilities because they are a great training tool for conditioning and injury prevention. As in, he completed his first year as a U23 elite by finishing 10th at Nationals. Meet Patrick – he’s been a LiquidGym staffer for over 2 years. I know what you’re thinking: “Why would I want to run indoors when it’s finally nice outside?!” Just hear me out and you’ll see how it will enhance your outdoor runs and races.
